Twitter Security Breach: Former Employee Claims Engineers Can Tweet from Any Account

Apparently, one former Twitter employee has claimed that any engineer who has been given access to an internal program called “GodMode” continues to have access to it. Twitter engineers can still use ‘GodMode’ to tweet as any account

I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in October of last year. According to reports, the renamed “privileged mode” program remains on the laptops of any engineer who wants access to it. It is said that only a production computer and a simple code change from “FALSE” to “TRUE” is required to use it.

Twitter’s security practices have disappointed users in the past, and this isn’t the first time they have done so in the future. Teenage computer hackers hacked the company’s internal systems in 2020, and sent fake tweets on behalf of celebrities such as President Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama, Elon Musk, and others, in an attempt to gain access to the company’s internal systems. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are fooled by these fake tweets that are shared by official accounts on Twitter.

During this time period, Twitter executives claimed that the issue had been resolved and that the company had launched a “comprehensive information security program” as a means of protecting its users. According to whistleblowers, however, there are still some instances in which GodMode can be accessed.

As per the information we have received, the file has been reopened as a result of the complaints. According to the report, engineers were also capable of deleting or restoring the tweets of individuals. Normally, regular Twitter users do not have access to this kind of privilege.

What makes this case a real scandal is the fact that there is no record of which account was tampered with or who did it. It has been reported that the FTC is currently interviewing former employees of Twitter to find out what the allegations are. There could be serious consequences for Twitter if the FTC decides that they are failing to protect the data of their users.
