In a significant development, the federal government has appointed Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar as the new chairman of the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA). This appointment was made during a meeting of the federal cabinet, which was chaired by the Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on a Monday.

The federal cabinet, during its meeting, received an update from the selection committee responsible for shortlisting candidates for the prestigious position of NADRA chairman. Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar assumes the role of chairman from his predecessor, Asad Rehman Gilani. Mr. Gilani took charge of NADRA in June following the resignation of Tariq Malik, who cited the “charged and polarized political environment” as the reason for stepping down from his position. With this transition, Lieutenant General Afsar carries the responsibility of steering NADRA through a critical phase in its history.
