In response to the recent drop in temperature and rainfall, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has decided to adjust school and college timings in both urban and rural areas of Islamabad. This move aims to ensure the safety and comfort of students and staff during adverse weather conditions. The revised timings came into effect on October 16, as per the official notification from the FDE.

1. Single-Shift Institutes

For single-shift institutes, the following schedule will be followed:

  • Monday to Thursday: Schools and colleges will operate from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.
  • Friday: These institutes will close at 12:30 pm.

2. Double Shift Institutes

Double shift institutes in the federal capital will observe the following timings:

  • Morning Shift (Monday to Thursday): Classes will commence from 8:00 am and conclude at 1:00 pm.
  • Friday: The morning shift will end at 12:30 pm.
  • Evening Shift (Monday to Thursday): The evening shift will run from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
  • Friday (Second Shift): Classes will start at 2:30 pm.

3. Postgraduate Colleges

Postgraduate colleges will adhere to the following schedule:

  • Monday to Thursday: Operating hours are from 8:30 am to either 2:00 pm or 4:00 pm, depending on the college.

This decision by the FDE is a proactive measure to adapt to the changing weather conditions in Islamabad. School timings may be revised in other parts of the country as well, especially in areas where a further drop in temperature is expected.

Weather Forecast

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted weather changes in various regions:

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, Potohar region, and northeast Punjab are likely to experience rain, thunderstorms, and even snow in mountainous areas.
  • Upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will have partly cloudy weather.
  • Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Kurram, and Kohat are expected to receive heavy rainfall.

As the weather can be unpredictable, these changes in school timings reflect the FDE’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff during adverse weather conditions.
