The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made an announcement today regarding star batsman Virat Kohli’s absence from the final three matches of the ongoing five-match home Test series against England due to personal reasons.
In a statement, BCCI expressed full support for Kohli’s decision and emphasized their respect for it. Kohli had previously withdrawn from participating in the first two tests, citing similar personal reasons.
This absence marks a significant moment in Kohli’s illustrious career as it is the first time he will miss an entire series at home. The 35-year-old has amassed nearly 9,000 runs in 113 Test matches.
The third Test, slated to take place in Rajkot starting Thursday, will proceed without Kohli, with subsequent matches scheduled in Ranchi and Dharamsala.

BCCI has also unveiled a 17-man squad for the remaining Tests. Among them are KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, both returning from injury, pending clearance from the medical team.
Reports suggest that middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been sidelined due to a back problem. Despite speculation about resting him, selectors have retained fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who had previously faced injury setbacks. Mohammed Siraj makes a return to the squad after missing the last game, while Akash Deep earns his debut Test call-up.
