Habib University launched its Al-Ihsan Religious Giving campaign for the year with the premiere of a remarkable documentary titled “Gift of Knowledge: Empowering Lives Through Islamic Philanthropy” at the residence of Mr. Arif Habib, a distinguished member of the Habib University Foundation Board of Directors and a prominent community leader. The documentary, thoughtfully crafted, featured insights from notable figures such as Javed Ahmad Ghamidi, Dr. Nauman Naqvi, and Dr. Oludamini Ogunnaike, along with other global scholars.

Drawing upon Quranic verses and historical institutions like the Bait Ul Hikmat in Baghdad, Al-Azhar University in Cairo, and al-Qarawiyy University in Fez, the documentary highlighted the rich legacy of nurturing intellect, prosperity, and scientific thought in Muslim societies, portraying Islam as a catalyst for progress.

 

The screening gathered leading entrepreneurs, community pioneers, and philanthropists who support Habib University’s mission of providing quality education to deserving Pakistani students regardless of their socio-economic background.

The event began with a recitation of the Holy Quran by Basil Ali Khan, followed by Mr. Arif Habib welcoming the esteemed guests and emphasizing the significance of religious giving.

He praised Habib University’s faculty, infrastructure, and liberal arts model, underscoring its commitment to addressing inequalities by providing quality education. Ms. Lubna Ahmed, Director of Resource Development at Habib University, introduced the documentary, highlighting the Islamic ethic of generosity and the historic practice of giving Zakaat to address societal issues. She commended the contributions of Habib University’s community of Mohsineen, whose support has enabled the university to disburse over $9.2 million in scholarships.

The documentary received a resounding applause from the audience, including esteemed community leaders such as Mr. Ehsan A Malik, Mr. Jawad Khan, and Ms. Syeda Leghari. President Wasif Rizvi expressed gratitude to the founding community and supporters worldwide, recognizing their generosity and empathy in paving the way for the university’s achievements. The evening aimed to revive the practice of giving Zakaat for the advancement of knowledge and scholarly pursuits, culminating in remarks from Chancellor Mr. Rafiq M Habib and cherished community members like Mr. Tariq Rafi and Unilever CEO Mr. Amir Peracha, whose generous endowment contributed to the establishment of Tariq Rafi Hall at the University.
