Apple has just announced its latest hardware through a press release, deviating from its usual media event approach. While the unveiling didn’t include any new iPads, the spotlight was on the new MacBook Air laptops powered by the M3 chip. This release holds significant importance for Apple, given that the 13″ MacBook Air holds the title of the world’s best-selling laptop, and the 15″ variant is also a top seller.

Apple Introduces New M3 MacBook Air in 13 and 15 Variants

In classic Apple fashion, the company opted not to compare the new hardware directly with the previous generation, but rather with the one before it. According to Apple, the M3 MacBook Air boasts performance up to 60% faster than the M1 and a staggering 13x improvement over the fastest Intel-powered MacBook from nearly five years ago. The Retina Display promises double the resolution of comparable PC laptops, with brightness reaching up to 500 nits and support for 1 billion colors. Notably, it can drive up to two external screens even when the lid is closed. Battery life extends up to 18 hours, offering ample usage time.

Additionally, Touch ID enables quick and secure unlocks. The laptops will be available in four colors: midnight, starlight, space gray, and silver. Apple highlights that the midnight variant features an anodization seal to minimize fingerprints. Pricing starts at $1099 for the 13″ model and $1299 for the 15″ variant, with sales set to commence in 28 countries on March 8.
