Former Pakistan cricketer Aqib Javed has been appointed as the fast-bowling coach of the Sri Lankan national team with immediate effect, as announced by Sri Lanka Cricket. The appointment extends until the conclusion of the ICC T20I World Cup scheduled to take place in the USA and the Caribbean in June.

Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, expressed a warm welcome to Aaqib, citing his extensive international experience in both playing and coaching. De Silva believes that Aaqib’s expertise will significantly contribute to preparing Sri Lanka’s bowlers for upcoming major international tournaments, particularly the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Aaqib Javed currently holds the position of Director of Cricket Operations and Head Coach at Lahore Qalandars in the PSL. He has previously served as the bowling coach for the Pakistan National team. Aaqib’s coaching stint with the UAE national team proved successful, leading them to qualify for the ICC ODI World Cup in 2015 and aiding in their pursuit of T20 and ODI status in international cricket.
Additionally, Aaqib has contributed to the development of cricket in Afghanistan and was part of the coaching staff when Pakistan won the T20I World Cup in 2009. With 236 international scalps to his name from 163 ODIs and 22 Tests, Aaqib Javed brings a wealth of experience to his new role with the Sri Lankan team.
