Poultry Feed Price-Fixing Case Revived as Court Lifts Stay Order

Lahore High Court has cleared the way for the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) to investigate four poultry feed manufacturers suspected of price fixing. The court vacated a stay order previously granted to Hi-Tech Feeds, Islamabad Feeds, Kausar Feed Mills, and Mukhtar Poultry Feeds.

The CCP initiated an inquiry in 2020 after concerns were raised about a simultaneous increase in poultry prices. Evidence suggested potential collusion among feed mills, prompting the issuance of show cause notices to nineteen companies in total. However, the four aforementioned companies obtained a stay order, delaying the CCP’s proceedings.

This recent court decision allows the CCP to resume its investigation and determine if these companies violated Section 4 of the Competition Act, 2010, which prohibits cartelization and price coordination.
