Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif pledged on Monday to invest significantly in the nation’s youth to drive Pakistan towards becoming a thriving and developed country.

During an event celebrating International Youth Day, organized by the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, the Prime Minister announced the government’s plan to distribute one million smartphones to high-achieving students this year. He described these smartphones as a gift from the federal government, aimed at empowering the youth.

“The youth of our nation possess the potential to elevate Pakistan to new heights if provided with access to modern education and resources,” Shehbaz Sharif stated. He emphasized the importance of equipping talented young people with knowledge in modern education, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence to inspire a transformative revolution in the country, similar to China’s progress.

The Prime Minister expressed concern that despite Pakistan’s abundant resources and 77 years of independence, the nation remains heavily burdened by debt. He highlighted the disparity between the extreme poverty faced by many, who struggle to meet basic needs like arranging marriages for their daughters, and the privileges enjoyed by the country’s elite.

In addition to these efforts, Shehbaz Sharif announced his personal commitment to fund the education of 1,000 agricultural graduates in China, with the aim of enhancing agricultural productivity through modern technology. He also mentioned Huawei’s commitment to training 200,000 young people in IT and advanced education. Furthermore, he revealed plans to present a comprehensive development strategy for Pakistan on August 14.

At the start of the event, the Prime Minister launched several key initiatives, including the Commonwealth Youth Alliance Secretariat in Islamabad, the Digital Learning Portal, the PM Green Youth Movement, and the AI for Youth Programme, which offers Intel-certified skills to young people.
