Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to depart for Saudi Arabia today to participate in the Arab Islamic Summit in Riyadh. Leaders from the Islamic world are gathering in the Kingdom to address escalating Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon, aiming to outline a strategic response to the intensifying crisis.
During the summit, Prime Minister Sharif will reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, with discussions anticipated to extend to wider regional concerns in the Middle East. The meeting will focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reflecting deepening anxieties about stability in the region.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has already arrived in Saudi Arabia. After performing Umrah, he will participate in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers’ meeting on November 11.

Following the Riyadh summit, Prime Minister Sharif is scheduled to travel to Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 12 to 13 to attend the COP29 climate conference, hosted by the United Nations from November 11 to 22. At COP29, the Prime Minister will underscore Pakistan’s vulnerabilities to climate change, such as recurring floods and droughts, advocating for global solidarity on climate action and emphasizing the need for “environmental justice.”
He is expected to urge the international community for enhanced funding and collaboration, particularly through the Loss and Damage Fund, designed to aid nations most severely impacted by climate change.
Prime Minister Sharif’s visits to Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan emphasize Pakistan’s dual commitment to addressing both urgent regional issues and pressing global environmental challenges.
