Google has officially started rolling out its new Identity Check feature for Android, with Pixel devices running Android 15 being the first to receive the update. This new security feature, announced last week, adds an additional layer of protection by requiring biometric verification before users can access sensitive settings outside their designated trusted locations.
What is Android’s New Identity Check Feature?
The Identity Check feature allows users to set trusted locations where they can access sensitive device settings without needing further authentication. However, when users are outside these trusted areas, biometric verification will be required to prevent unauthorized access.

Google states that the Identity Check feature will prompt biometric authentication for various actions outside of a trusted location. These actions include managing Google accounts, setting up a new device, disabling the feature, modifying trusted places, turning off Theft Protection, disabling Find My Device, performing a factory reset, changing biometric data, and accessing passwords stored in Google Password Manager.
This feature works alongside other security measures like Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock, all aimed at enhancing user protection against data theft and unauthorized access.
How to Enable Identity Check on Android 15
To enable the Identity Check feature on a compatible Pixel phone, users must first ensure their device is updated to the latest Android version. Then, they can navigate to the Settings app, select the Google section, go to All Services, and click on Theft Protection to activate the feature. After signing into their Google account, users will need to set up a lock screen and biometrics, if they haven’t already. Finally, they can designate their trusted locations, completing the setup process.
When Will Other Devices Get Identity Check?
Currently, the rollout is in progress for Pixel devices running Android 15. Samsung phones are expected to receive the feature in the coming weeks as part of One UI 7. Google has also stated that the feature will be available for other eligible Android devices later this year, broadening the security enhancements across more smartphones.
