OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Integration in Latest Beta Update

Android users now have a new alternative for their default digital assistant, as OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT beta update allows it to replace Google’s Gemini. This integration enables users to directly access ChatGPT within their device’s core functionality.

How to Use ChatGPT as the Default Assistant

Users can activate ChatGPT through standard Android navigation methods:

  • Three-button navigation: Hold the home button to launch ChatGPT.
  • Gesture navigation: Swipe up and hold from either bottom corner of the screen.
  • Power button shortcut: If enabled, long-pressing the power button will bring up the chatbot.

When launched, ChatGPT enters voice mode, allowing users to issue voice commands seamlessly.

Limitations and Future Updates

Unlike Google’s Gemini, ChatGPT currently does not support a wake word like “Hey Google.” This limitation exists due to API restrictions that only apply to pre-installed, trusted apps.

Additionally, the public release timeline remains uncertain, so non-beta users may need to wait for wider availability.
