The annual Intermediate Examinations 2025 for Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, and General Science groups have been officially postponed. Initially slated to begin on April 28, the exams are now expected to start on or after May 6. The delay will also impact the Commerce and Arts group exams, which were planned for the second phase.

🕰️ Why the Exams Are Delayed

Several key reasons have contributed to this postponement:

  1. Unavailability of Examination Centers
Many exam centers are still occupied for Matriculation exams, making them unavailable for intermediate use until the completion of matric papers.

  2. Pending First-Year Result Revisions
Boards are applying grace marks adjustments to first-year results, which has further pushed back scheduling.

  3. Administrative Vacancies
Both the Karachi and Hyderabad Education Boards have been operating without officially appointed chairpersons for over a month. This leadership gap has halted final approvals for the exam timetable and center arrangements.

🔍 Background on the Delay

A senior official from the Universities and Boards Department revealed to Express that matric exams in Karachi will continue until May 2, and since many of the same centers are designated for both matric and intermediate exams, the transition can only happen post-matric completion.

Additionally, the absence of chairpersons has caused significant administrative bottlenecks, from scheduling to examination logistics.

Originally, the Education Department Steering Committee had set the intermediate exams for April 8, but due to appeals from private school associations citing hardships for students during Ramadan, the date was shifted to April 28.

Now, due to these new complications, students will likely have to face their exams during the peak summer heat, which could lead to:

  • Delays in result announcements.

  • Postponements in university admissions.

  • A late start to the next academic session.

⚠️ Conclusion

This repeated reshuffling of exam dates has added more uncertainty for students and parents alike, raising concerns about the academic calendar and future admissions.
