WhatsApp has launched a new feature for iOS users that allows them to create AI-generated profile photos and group icons. This comes after the same feature was recently introduced to Android users through the WhatsApp beta version 2.25.9.8. Now, iPhone users can also enjoy this creative tool, which is available through the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS version 25.16.10.70 via the TestFlight app.

With this feature, WhatsApp users can generate personalized profile pictures and group icons using artificial intelligence. Instead of selecting or uploading an existing photo, users can enter a short text prompt describing what kind of image they want. The AI then creates a new image that reflects the user’s input. This allows for greater customization and adds a creative touch to profiles and group chats.

The AI-powered image generation is backed by Meta AI, which ensures high-quality results that are visually appealing and professional-looking. Whether users want to create a digital avatar, a whimsical illustration, or a themed image that matches their mood or interests, this feature offers a fun and innovative way to personalize their WhatsApp experience.

To use the AI image generator for profile photos, users can go to the app settings and tap on the option to update their profile picture. There, they will find a new option to “Create AI Image.” By entering a description, such as “a sunset over a mountain” or “a cartoon astronaut,” Meta AI will generate a unique image based on the prompt.

This feature is especially helpful for users who may not wish to use a personal photo due to privacy concerns or simply prefer a more artistic representation of themselves. Similarly, group chat icons can be customized by opening the group info screen and selecting the “Edit” icon option. Users can then describe the theme of the group—such as “book club,” “soccer team,” or “family vacation”—and let the AI create a matching icon.

Interestingly, the feature is not limited to beta testers. Some iOS users with the most recent stable version of WhatsApp downloaded from the App Store have also reported receiving access to the AI image generation tool. This suggests that WhatsApp is conducting a phased rollout of the feature, gradually expanding its availability beyond the testing phase.

The rollout is expected to vary based on region, as WhatsApp and Meta often consider factors like user behavior, local regulations, and server capacity before implementing new features worldwide. Still, this development highlights WhatsApp’s continued push toward integrating advanced AI technologies into its platform to enhance user personalization and creativity.
