Former U.S. President Donald Trump has renewed his push for domestic manufacturing by calling for a 25% tariff on Apple iPhones that are not produced within the United States. The demand was made via a post on Truth Social, where Trump reiterated his long-held view that Apple must shift iPhone production back to American soil.
In his post, Trump stated, “I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhones that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else. If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S.”
This statement aligns with Trump’s broader economic agenda from his presidency, which focused on bringing manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. through tariffs and protectionist policies. While Apple is headquartered in California and designs its products domestically, most iPhones are assembled in China, India, and Vietnam due to lower production costs and well-established supply chains.

Apple has yet to issue a formal response. However, the company has been steadily expanding its manufacturing footprint in India to reduce dependency on China, partly in response to global geopolitical tensions and supply chain challenges.
Analysts warn that if such a tariff is implemented, it could either lead to higher iPhone prices in the U.S. or force Apple to absorb the costs—both of which could affect the company’s profit margins and market positioning.
