Brigitte Macron Playfully Slaps President Macron on Camera During Vietnam Arrival
The office of French President Emmanuel Macron has downplayed a viral incident involving First Lady Brigitte Macron, who was seen lightly slapping the president’s face upon their arrival in Vietnam as part of a Southeast Asian tour.
The footage, recorded by local media on Sunday evening, shows President Macron stepping off his plane when Brigitte’s hands briefly emerge from the doorway, placing both palms on his face in what appeared to be a gentle shove. Macron looked slightly caught off guard but quickly regained composure, waving to onlookers. Brigitte Macron, mostly out of view in the video, did not reveal her expression.

The moment went viral on social media, particularly among critics of Macron, as the couple descended the aircraft stairs. Notably, Brigitte declined to take her husband’s offered arm during the official welcome ceremony.
While the presidential office initially questioned the footage’s authenticity, it later confirmed its legitimacy. A close aide to the president described the incident as a harmless “squabble,” while another official called it a “light-hearted moment” between the couple as they prepared for the diplomatic visit.
