The federal government extended tax exemptions totaling Rs. 5.84 trillion across various sectors during the ongoing fiscal year, according to the Economic Survey 2024-25 released today.

A significant portion of the relief came through sales tax exemptions, which alone accounted for over Rs. 4,253 billion. Notably, Rs. 87.95 billion in sales tax was specifically waived on mobile phones.

Income tax exemptions contributed more than Rs. 800 billion, while customs duty relief amounted to over Rs. 785 billion. The survey further highlighted that exemptions worth Rs. 133 billion were granted to the automobile industry and projects related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Additionally, Rs. 178 billion in customs duty was waived for the export sector.
