In a major crackdown on unsafe food practices, the Punjab Food Authority’s (PFA) Meat Safety Task Force seized and destroyed 1,050 kilograms of diseased and unfit chicken during a targeted operation at Tollinton Market on Wednesday.

The operation, carried out on the orders of PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid, involved inspections of poultry products from 17 suppliers and vendors. A total of 28,000 kilograms of chicken was examined during the action. The seized chicken was found to be not only underweight but also infected with flu and other diseases.

Veterinary experts conducted a thorough evaluation and declared the meat hazardous to human health. The DG emphasized that attempting to sell or process meat from sick poultry is a serious breach of food safety laws. Those involved in this illegal practice were heavily fined.

Muhammad Asim Javaid added that the PFA is committed to modernizing the meat supply chain and aligning food safety practices with international standards. As part of these efforts, the authority is planning to build a modern slaughterhouse in Tollinton Market to ensure better hygiene and quality assurance.
