In a major shift in academic policy, the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTA) has introduced a unified mathematics textbook for all ninth-grade students, eliminating the distinction between Arts and Science groups.
Under the new directive, students in the Arts group will now study the same math textbook as their Science counterparts. PECTA has formally issued instructions to all schools across Punjab to implement the policy beginning this academic session.

As part of the change, the separate general science textbook previously used by ninth-grade Arts students has been discontinued.
Education experts highlight that the newly designed math curriculum is streamlined and student-friendly, ensuring that it remains accessible and manageable for students from all academic backgrounds. The goal, they say, is to promote uniformity in learning while also raising the overall standard of mathematics education.
This decision is being seen as a step toward educational equity and curriculum simplification in the province’s public education system.
