A journalist in Balochistan has alleged that a tragic case of honour killing occurred in the Degari area after a Baloch couple—identified as Bano (a mother of five from the Satakzai tribe) and Ehsan (also with five children, from the Smalani tribe)—lived together for four months without being formally married.
According to the report by Irshad Bhatti, tensions rose when Bano returned to her first husband and Ehsan subsequently went into hiding. Tribal leaders, including the Satakzai chieftain, initially offered protection to Ehsan but later surrendered to pressure from Bano’s family. A tribal jirga (council) was convened, which reportedly ordered their killing for allegedly violating cultural norms.

Both individuals were shot multiple times: Bano sustained seven gunshot wounds including to the head, while Ehsan was shot nine times in the chest and abdomen. Witnesses say Bano was executed by male relatives—brothers, uncles, nephews, and cousins—in what was described as a “collective execution under tribal orders”

Local authorities have not received any complaints or FIRs from within the community, prompting the state to take up the investigation. Police efforts to arrest suspects reportedly faced resistance from tribal women, who protested and defended the actions of the perpetrators.
This horrifying incident has once again highlighted the prevalence of tribal-based honour killings in Balochistan, where traditional norms often override formal legal processes.
