High Octane Blending Component (HOBC) sales surged to a record 35,000 tons in November 2025, supported by improved pricing dynamics and rising demand from performance vehicle owners.

Analysts at Topline Securities attribute the increase to a narrower price gap between HOBC and regular Motor Spirit (MS). The reduced difference has encouraged more consumers, particularly those with turbocharged vehicles, to opt for HOBC to gain better mileage and engine efficiency.

The sharp rise in consumption follows the government’s recent petroleum price adjustment announced on Sunday. Under the latest revision, the price of Motor Spirit (petrol) has been reduced by Rs. 2.00 per litre, now priced at Rs. 263.45, down from Rs. 265.45.

High-Speed Diesel (HSD) prices were also cut by Rs. 4.79 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs. 279.65 from Rs. 284.44.

According to the petroleum division, these price cuts are intended to offer relief to consumers amid global market volatility and provide cost stability for motorists and businesses.
