During the first day of the Basant festival in Lahore, one person died and six others were injured in various incidents linked to kite flying. The victim, a 25-year-old man, was electrocuted while trying to retrieve a kite from an electricity pole.

Among the injured were three children who were hurt while chasing or picking up kites, and at least one adult suffered injuries from a kite string. Other accidents involved people falling from rooftops or being struck by kite lines as festivities took place across the city.

Authorities have urged the public to follow safety precautions while participating in Basant to prevent further injuries during the ongoing celebrations.
