The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) is preparing to introduce a major change to the structure of exam papers in an effort to improve the overall examination system and encourage conceptual learning among students.
The decision was discussed during a meeting chaired by BSEK Chairman Ghulam Hussain Soho, where officials met with paper setters responsible for subjects such as English, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The meeting focused on revising the current examination format to move away from traditional rote-learning based questions.

According to board officials, the new paper pattern will emphasize concept-based questions that test students’ understanding rather than their ability to memorize textbook content. The aim is to improve academic standards and align the examination system with modern educational practices.
Education experts involved in the discussion stressed that updating the exam format could help students develop stronger analytical and critical-thinking skills. The board also discussed ways to make question papers more balanced and fair while ensuring they accurately assess students’ knowledge of the subjects.
The proposed changes are expected to be implemented gradually in upcoming examinations as the Karachi Board continues its efforts to modernize the education and assessment system for students across the city.
