According to the Secretary of Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Pakistan could generate $8 billion in revenue by implementing a cannabis policy.
Under Senator Shafiq Tarni, the Standing Committee on Science and Technology met. It was discussed how the government could generate $2 billion in revenue by developing a policy on marijuana use.
He (Minister of Science and Technology) stated that Pakistan had never implemented a marijuana policy, but given the current economic situation, it is now time for Pakistani to make revenue from the legal sale.

Hevmentioned that although the MoST had created a policy regarding cannabis use, the Cabinet has yet to approve it. He said that it had been created after consultations with different ministries. It was also within the borders of international institutions.
The minister linked the cannabis policy with Pakistan’s foreign loans and stated that the International Monetary Fund placed very strict conditions on loans of $6 billion and high interest rates. If Pakistan develops a cannabis policy, the government could help reduce the economic burden.
