The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has blocked 11,252 SIMs belonging to individuals who have not filed their income tax returns.

Following the establishment of a Joint Working Group (JWG) consisting of tax officials and telecom operators, the process for blocking these SIMs has been made more efficient and compliant with legal requirements. According to a recent notification, during a meeting on May 12, 2024, between the finance minister and representatives of Pakistan’s telecom operators, it was decided to form the JWG to enforce Income Tax General Order (ITGO) No 1 of 2024 and to streamline the SIM blockage process for non-filers in accordance with the law.
