The Punjab government has officially released the admission policy for medical and dental colleges across the province, following approval from the provincial cabinet. The policy was implemented with a notification from the Specialized Healthcare Department on Friday.

Key Changes in the Admission Policy

A major change in the new policy is the restriction on admissions for students from Islamabad. Only three seats have been allocated for Islamabad-based students in Punjab’s medical colleges, effectively ending their eligibility for open merit admissions in the MBBS programs. This has led to disappointment among students from the federal capital, who previously had broader access to compete on merit.

Additionally, Narowal Medical College has been authorized to admit 100 students for the current academic year, increasing the province’s capacity for medical education.

Admission Timeline

  • Government Medical Colleges: Applications will be accepted from October 21 to November 4, 2024.
  • Private Medical Colleges: Application period runs from November 5 to November 19, 2024.
  • Government Dental Colleges: Applications open from November 20 to December 4, 2024.
  • Private Dental Colleges: Application deadline is from December 5 to December 19, 2024.

Academic Calendar

  • MBBS Classes: Start on February 1, 2025.
  • BDS Classes: Begin on March 1, 2025.

The University of Health Sciences (UHS) will oversee the admissions process for both medical and dental colleges in Punjab.
