Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has escalated his criticism of the military’s involvement in politics, despite previously writing two letters to the incumbent Army Chief, seemingly contradicting his stance. While advocating for talks with the military establishment, Khan continues to accuse them of political interference.
Fresh Allegations from Adiala Jail
Since his arrest in August 2023, Khan has persistently criticized the military leadership. Speaking to lawyers and the media from Adiala Jail, he alleged that the army is taking over political matters, specifically targeting:
- Army Chief
- Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR)
Khan stated that his letters to the Army Chief were written in good faith for the betterment of the country. However, he claimed that the military’s influence in governance and politics is now unprecedented, accusing the Army Chief of controlling political affairs behind the scenes, thereby undermining Pakistan’s democratic institutions.

Condemnation of Government Actions
The PTI chairman also condemned the caretaker government’s alleged attempts to suppress his political activities, including blocking his planned rally at Minar-e-Pakistan. He accused the authorities of:
- Suppressing opposition voices
- Undermining democracy
- Failing to address the real issues of the people
According to Khan, these actions have further widened the trust deficit between the public and the military, creating a deepening political crisis.
Khan’s Previous Letters to the Army
In his earlier letters to the Army Chief, Khan highlighted several key concerns:
- Allegations of electoral fraud
- Impact of the 26th Constitutional Amendment on the judiciary
- Terrorism charges against PTI members
- Support for the military’s fight against terrorism
- Recognition of soldiers’ sacrifices
Criticism of PECA and Economic Challenges
Khan also criticized the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), arguing that it threatens press freedom and restricts dissenting voices. He further raised concerns over Pakistan’s struggling economy, urging:
- Judicial commissions
- Policy changes
- Economic reforms
Political Tensions Escalate
With Khan’s latest statements, political tensions in Pakistan continue to escalate, further straining relations between the military, government, and opposition forces. His remarks are expected to deepen political divisions, shaping the country’s future political landscape.
