Punjab is facing an extreme heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 45°C in multiple areas. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of further temperature increases by 4–7°C by May 19, raising health and safety concerns.
Rahim Yar Khan recorded the highest temperature at 45.4°C, followed by Bahawalnagar (44.5°C), and Kot Addu and Bhakkar (44.0°C). Other affected cities include Multan (42.5°C), Lahore (42.0°C), and Faisalabad. Even hill stations like Murree and Rawalakot experienced unusually warm weather.
PDMA has instructed all public hospitals to activate emergency plans, set up heatwave treatment counters, and ensure availability of essential medicines. Clean water has been arranged for Cholistan, and awareness campaigns are underway to guide the public.
