Software has always been a strong point for Nothing phones, and the brand continues to deliver a solid experience. It’s not just about the quality — their speed in rolling out updates is also commendable. A good example is Android 15, which Nothing rolled out faster than many competitors. While it’s true that Nothing manages a relatively small lineup of devices, it still outperforms brands like Tecno and Infinix, who have long struggled with timely updates.

With Android 15 now nearly finalized and Google preparing for the launch of Android 16 in June, there’s some disappointing news for fans — Nothing did not join this year’s Android 16 beta program. This means users might have to wait longer for early access to the new OS. Even more disappointing is that the Nothing Phone (1) will not be receiving Android 16 at all.

The Nothing Phone (1), which launched in 2022 with Android 12, was the company’s debut device. At launch, Nothing committed to providing three major Android updates — and it kept that promise. Android 15, released earlier this year, is the final major update for the device. While it won’t get Android 16, it will still receive regular security patches for the foreseeable future.

So what’s next for Phone (1) users? Should they upgrade? Technically, yes. But it might be wise to wait and watch how Android 16 rolls out across other Nothing devices — there’s always a small chance the brand may reconsider and offer one last surprise update.
