The School Education Department of Punjab has reported that 2,925 government schools across the province have been shut down as a result of the ongoing floods.
Extent of Damage
According to Secretary of School Education Khalid Nazir Wattoo:
- 1,151 schools have sustained damage.
- 817 schools are partially affected.
- 45 schools have been completely destroyed.
- More than 1,700 schools have been converted into flood relief camps, halting normal academic activities.
Impact on Students
Both boys’ and girls’ schools have been affected:
- 1,505 girls’ schools are currently closed.
- 1,420 boys’ schools are also non-functional.
The closures have disrupted the education of over 680,000 students, particularly in Gujrat, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan, where a significant number of schools remain shut.

Dual Use as Relief Camps
Wattoo added that the use of school buildings as temporary flood relief camps has further disrupted education, creating challenges for both students and teachers.
