Traders Selling New Currency Notes in Black Despite SBP Assurances

New currency notes Pakistan are reportedly being sold in the black market at inflated prices despite assurances from the State Bank of Pakistan that fresh notes will be available through official banking channels ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

As Eid approaches, reports suggest that traders in various markets are selling bundles of fresh currency notes at prices higher than their actual value, taking advantage of increased public demand for crisp notes used during the festive season.

The central bank has clarified that citizens can obtain fresh currency notes through commercial bank branches and ATMs, urging the public to avoid purchasing notes from unauthorized sellers or illegal channels.

Despite these assurances, the illegal sale of new notes continues in some areas, raising concerns about market manipulation and exploitation of consumers. Authorities have advised the public to rely only on official distribution systems to ensure transparency and avoid overpaying.

The demand for fresh currency notes traditionally spikes during Eid-ul-Fitr, as people distribute “Eidi” among children and family members. This seasonal demand often creates opportunities for unauthorized traders to profit through unofficial means.

Officials have warned that strict action may be taken against those involved in such illegal practices, as efforts continue to ensure fair access to new currency notes for the general public.
