Pakistan mobile phone imports recorded a strong increase during the first eight months of fiscal year 2025-26, reflecting rising consumer demand for smartphones and communication devices across the country.
According to official trade data, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $1.295 billion between July and February FY26, compared to $999.55 million during the same period last year, marking a growth of about 29.6%.
In local currency terms, the value of mobile phone imports reached approximately Rs364.68 billion, up from Rs278.16 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, showing an increase of around 31.1%.
However, on a month-to-month basis, imports experienced a slight slowdown in February 2026. The country imported mobile phones worth $155.55 million in February, representing a 13.26% decline compared to January’s $179.34 million. Despite the monthly drop, the figure remained 17.95% higher than February 2025, indicating continued yearly growth.
Looking at the broader trend, Pakistan imported $1.494 billion worth of mobile phones during FY2024-25, which represented a 21.31% decline compared with FY2023-24, largely due to economic challenges and import restrictions.

Meanwhile, local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly have expanded significantly. In January 2026 alone, local plants produced 1.69 million mobile handsets, compared with just 0.47 million units imported commercially during the same period.
Data also indicates that smartphones now account for about 71% of active mobile devices in Pakistan, while around 29% are still 2G phones, highlighting the country’s gradual transition toward modern mobile technologies.
Experts believe that increasing smartphone adoption, expanding mobile internet usage, and the upcoming 5G rollout could further boost demand for mobile devices in Pakistan in the coming years.
