Apple has officially unveiled its next-generation AI-powered Siri at WWDC 2026, bringing a more conversational, intelligent, and personalized assistant to users. However, while iOS 27 will be available on a wide range of iPhones, the new AI Siri supported devices list is much shorter due to demanding hardware requirements.
The upgraded Siri is part of Apple’s broader Apple Intelligence platform and relies heavily on advanced on-device AI processing. As a result, only select iPhones equipped with newer chips and sufficient memory can access the full experience.
What Makes the New AI Siri Different?
The revamped Siri introduces powerful capabilities, including natural conversations, contextual understanding, cross-app actions, personalized assistance, and deeper integration with Apple Intelligence. It can understand information on your screen, retrieve personal context, and perform more complex tasks than previous versions of Siri.
Apple says these features require significant on-device processing power, which is why many older iPhones cannot support them despite receiving iOS 27 updates.
Full List of AI Siri Supported iPhones
According to Apple, the following iPhones are compatible with the new AI-powered Siri:
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16e
- iPhone 16
- iPhone 16 Plus
- iPhone 16 Pro
- iPhone 16 Pro Max
- iPhone 17e
- iPhone 17
- iPhone Air
- iPhone 17 Pro
- iPhone 17 Pro Max
Any iPhone older than the iPhone 15 Pro, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 14 series, iPhone 13 series, and iPhone 12 lineup, will not support the new AI Siri features.

Supported iPads and Macs
The new Siri AI is also coming to select iPads and Macs that support Apple Intelligence. Compatible devices include:
Supported iPads
- iPad mini with A17 Pro chip
- iPad Air with M1 chip or newer
- iPad Pro with M1 chip or newer
Supported Macs
- Any Mac powered by an M1 chip or newer
Why Older iPhones Are Missing Out
The primary limitation is hardware. Apple’s AI features require powerful neural processing capabilities and large amounts of memory to handle advanced AI tasks directly on the device. Analysts estimate that over 850 million existing iPhones cannot run Apple Intelligence features, while more than 1.3 billion devices lack the hardware needed for the most advanced Siri capabilities.
Although older iPhones will continue receiving iOS 27, they will not gain access to the new Siri AI experience. Instead, they will receive standard software updates without Apple Intelligence features.
Availability and Rollout
Apple plans to release Siri AI in beta later this year as part of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate. However, the company has confirmed that the feature will not initially launch in the European Union or China because of regulatory requirements.
For users with compatible devices, the new Siri represents Apple’s biggest leap into artificial intelligence yet, offering smarter interactions, enhanced productivity, and deeper integration across the Apple ecosystem.
