A major milestone has been achieved by a Pakistani entrepreneur in the global technology industry as Elon Musk’s SpaceX moves forward with plans to acquire AI startup Anysphere, the company behind the popular coding assistant Cursor, in a deal valued at $60 billion.
The startup was co-founded by Pakistani-born software engineer Sualeh Asif, who hails from Karachi and later studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Along with his co-founders, Asif launched Anysphere and developed Cursor, an AI-powered coding platform that has quickly become one of the most widely used tools among software developers worldwide.
According to reports, SpaceX previously secured the option to acquire Anysphere for $60 billion following a strategic partnership announced earlier this year. The acquisition is expected to strengthen SpaceX’s artificial intelligence capabilities and expand its presence in the rapidly growing AI software market.
Cursor has emerged as one of the leading AI coding assistants, helping developers generate, edit, and optimize code more efficiently. The platform is now used by thousands of organizations globally and has generated significant investor interest due to its rapid growth and rising revenue.

Before attracting SpaceX’s attention, Anysphere had already achieved a valuation exceeding $29 billion through multiple funding rounds. Industry analysts view the proposed acquisition as one of the largest AI startup deals in recent years.
Sualeh Asif’s success story has been widely celebrated in Pakistan, with many praising his journey from Karachi to Silicon Valley. His achievements have been highlighted as an example of the global impact Pakistani talent can have when provided with world-class educational and entrepreneurial opportunities.
If completed, the transaction will further elevate the profile of Pakistani founders in the international technology ecosystem while reinforcing the growing importance of artificial intelligence startups in shaping the future of software development.
