The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has dismissed social-media claims that Pakistani citizens traveling abroad on work or visit visas are being stopped at airports, calling such reports “baseless rumours.”

FIA Lahore Zone Director, Captain (retd) Ali Zia, in a detailed video statement on Thursday, explained that AI-generated videos and images are being circulated to create the false impression that passengers are being off-loaded without reason. He emphasized that travelers with valid visas and complete documents face no hindrance and are treated with respect by FIA staff.

Captain Zia noted that the real issue lies with human smuggling, where passengers change routes or travel intentions mid-journey, resulting in deportation. Such activities not only endanger lives and lead to financial extortion but also harm Pakistan’s international reputation and the credibility of its passport. Consequently, many countries have tightened visa policies for Pakistani nationals.

The FIA clarified that passengers are stopped only when travel documents are incomplete or visas raise concerns, particularly in cases involving fake companies or human-smuggling suspicions. Off-loading decisions are made after thorough investigation and profiling, and genuine travelers should not be swayed by false social-media propaganda.

Authorities also warned the public not to pay anyone for immigration clearance, highlighting that the circulation of these AI-generated rumours is financially motivated. Action under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 has been initiated against those spreading fabricated content, with more than 15 social-media accounts already identified and investigated.

FIA Immigration has been conducting strict profiling for months, particularly for first-time travelers on work or visit visas. Passengers with incomplete documentation undergo detailed scrutiny, and in some cases, are asked to complete missing papers before travel. While these measures have caused some delays and financial losses, they are part of a crackdown on migrant smuggling, intensified after last year’s tragic Greece boat incident.

Despite occasional off-loading incidents reported at Lahore and Karachi airports, FIA assures that thousands of Pakistanis continue to travel abroad daily without issues. For queries or complaints, passengers can contact FIA zonal offices or the Deputy Director Immigration directly.

Captain Zia concluded: “We bid farewell to those departing and welcome those returning,” reaffirming that immigration processes aim to protect both travelers and Pakistan’s international reputation.
