Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially approved an extension in the deadline for free vehicle emissions testing, giving citizens until August 31, 2025, to take advantage of the no-cost service. The free Emission Testing System (ETS) was initially set to conclude on June 30, after which the service was to be transferred to private vehicle dealerships in Lahore.
With this extension, the public now has additional time to get their vehicles tested without any charges. After the new deadline, emissions testing will be conducted by authorized dealerships of vehicle manufacturers across the city. These centers will be equipped with ETS machines and staffed with trained personnel.

Once the free service ends, each test will cost Rs. 400 at the authorized facilities.
Secretary of Environment Protection and Climate Change Department, Raja Jahangir Anwar, explained that this move is intended to increase the number of emissions-checked vehicles, ultimately improving air quality in Lahore. He added that outsourcing the service will enhance convenience and operational efficiency for vehicle owners.
