Google is reportedly planning to export its Pixel series of smartphones to the US and Europe from India, establishing the region as a key export hub. Commercial production is set to commence soon with two of its contract manufacturing partners.

According to a report by MoneyControl, sources indicate that production will be handled by Foxconn and Dixon subsidiary Padget Electronics. Trial production has already begun in Tamil Nadu, a South Indian state, with Foxconn, which is also a major manufacturer of Apple devices.

Additionally, Dixon is expected to add Google to its customer list in the second half of the year through its partnership with Compal. Production responsibilities will be shared between Foxconn and Dixon, with Dixon handling the base variant of the Pixel phones and Foxconn responsible for the higher-end Pro variants. Although Google has not yet made an official announcement, it is expected that this move will be confirmed in the second half of the year. The report suggests that India-made Pixel phones will initially be shipped to the European market, with plans to address demand in the US later on.

Positioning India as an export hub will help Google diversify its manufacturing capabilities. The region offers advantages such as low labor costs and local incentives. This development follows Google’s announcement that it will unveil the Pixel 9 series earlier than usual, with the launch set for August 13, 2024, instead of the typical October-November timeframe. Recently, real-life images of the Pixel 9 surfaced, showcasing the device in a pink color option. More details are expected to emerge soon.
