The federal government has issued the official notification for public holidays in the year 2026.
According to the notification released by the Cabinet Division, there will be a total of 40 holidays in 2026, including 17 public holidays and 23 optional holidays.
As per the notification, February 5, 2026, will be observed as a public holiday on Kashmir Day, while March 23, 2026, will be a public holiday on Pakistan Day. In addition, three holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on March 21, 22, and 23, 2026.
May 1 will be observed as Labour Day, and May 28, 2026, will be a public holiday on Youm-e-Takbeer. Furthermore, three holidays for Eid-ul-Adha will fall on May 27, 28, and 29, 2026.

Holidays for 9th and 10th Muharram will be observed on June 24 and 25, 2026.
August 14, 2026, will be a public holiday on Independence Day, while August 25, 2026, will be observed as a public holiday on Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH). November 9 will be a holiday on Iqbal Day, and December 25, 2026, will be a public holiday on Quaid-e-Azam Day.
For Christian government employees, December 26, 2026, will be observed as a public holiday following Christmas.
The notification clarifies that Islamic holidays for 2026 have been determined based on expected dates, and a separate notification will be issued subject to the sighting of the moon.
In 2026, January 1, July 1, and 1st Ramadan (according to the Islamic calendar) will be observed as bank holidays. Muslim government employees will be entitled to only one optional holiday per year, while non-Muslim government employees may avail up to three optional holidays annually.
