Huawei has overtaken Apple in global smartwatch shipments for the second quarter of 2025, according to Counterpoint Research.

The Chinese tech giant recorded a 52% year-over-year growth, securing a 21% share of the global smartwatch market. This marks the first time Huawei has surpassed Apple in overall units shipped.

Chinese Brands Drive Growth

The global smartwatch market, which had been in decline since early 2024, rebounded with an 8% YoY increase in Q2 2025. Much of this growth came from China, which was the largest contributor to global shipments during the quarter.

Other Chinese brands also performed strongly — Xiaomi grew by 38%, while Imoo posted 21% growth, underscoring China’s dominant role in the market rebound.

Apple and Samsung Decline

In contrast, both Apple and Samsung saw a 3% decline in global smartwatch shipments. Despite this drop, Apple maintained its lead in the premium smartwatch segment, catering to high-end consumers with feature-rich devices.

Market Outlook

Counterpoint projects that the global smartwatch market will grow by 7% in 2025, with momentum driven by emerging markets and strong domestic demand in Asia.
