Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique chaired a meeting at the Higher Education Department on Friday to discuss integrating thalassemia awareness into the educational curriculum.

Participants included Dr. Farrukh Naveed, Secretary of the Higher Education Department; Dr. Muhammad Waseem, Additional Secretary of the Technical Department for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education; Dr. Yasmin Ehsan, Director General of the Thalassemia Prevention Programme; Professor Shabnam Bashir, Head of the Institute of Blood Transfusion Services; and the Additional Secretary of the School Education Department.

The health minister reviewed updates on the ongoing efforts to include information about thalassemia in educational syllabi. He emphasized the significance of pre-marriage screening for thalassemia and announced that the Punjab government is enhancing testing facilities across the province.

Khawaja Salman Rafique underlined the necessity of embedding thalassemia awareness into the curriculum from primary to higher education levels. He remarked, “Our goal is to educate students about thalassemia through the curriculum. Controlling this condition requires collective efforts, including active participation from society alongside government initiatives.”
