The Government of Balochistan has ordered a province-wide suspension of internet services during the religious celebrations of Eid Milad-un-Nabi. As per an official notification issued on September 4, mobile data services (3G/4G) will be unavailable from 6:00 PM on September 5 until 9:00 PM on September 6.
The suspension also applies to PTCL and NTC services in specific districts, including:
-
Quetta
-
Noshki
-
Khuzdar
-
Mastung
-
Sibi
Both mobile and fixed-line internet services will remain inaccessible in these areas for the duration of the suspension. The Home Department of Balochistan stated that the move is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring public safety during large-scale religious gatherings.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been directed to enforce the suspension, with exceptions made for essential government services and white-listed numbers.
This is not the first such blackout in Balochistan. Internet shutdowns have become increasingly common during major religious and political events, with authorities citing security concerns. However, these repeated disruptions have drawn growing criticism from civil society organizations and digital rights advocates, who argue that such blanket bans hinder education, business, communication, and access to critical information.
The Balochistan High Court has previously urged the provincial government to review and limit such suspensions, especially in areas where no specific threats are identified.
