Iranian FM Contradictory Messages Statement Raises Fresh Concerns

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of sending “contradictory messages” regarding ongoing diplomatic negotiations and regional tensions, highlighting growing uncertainty surrounding future peace efforts between Tehran and Washington.

Speaking during the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, Araghchi said Iran currently has “no trust” in the United States and would only continue negotiations if Washington demonstrates seriousness and consistency in its approach.

According to Iranian officials, the US has publicly expressed interest in continuing diplomatic talks while simultaneously increasing military and political pressure in the region. Tehran believes these mixed signals are complicating efforts to stabilize the fragile ceasefire and reduce tensions linked to the ongoing Iran-US-Israel conflict.

The Iranian foreign minister also warned that the situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz remains highly sensitive and complicated. Iran has maintained restrictions over maritime activity in the strategic waterway following months of conflict and military escalation in the Gulf region.

Araghchi emphasized that diplomacy remains possible but stressed that negotiations cannot succeed without mutual respect and clear commitments from all sides. He added that Iran is prepared to defend its interests if talks collapse or military pressure continues.

The comments came shortly after US President Donald Trump criticized Iran’s latest peace proposal and described the ceasefire as being “on life support,” increasing fears that the regional crisis could intensify further.

Analysts say both Washington and Tehran continue to face major disagreements over sanctions, regional security, maritime access, and the future framework of any long-term peace arrangement. Diplomatic mediation efforts involving regional countries are still ongoing despite repeated setbacks.
