Iran’s Vice-President for Strategic Affairs, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has resigned from his post, according to international media reports. His resignation letter has been submitted to President Masoud Pezeshkian, who has yet to make a decision.
Resignation Amid Political Pressure
Zarif stated that his resignation was advised by Iran’s Judiciary Chief, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei, to help ease pressure on the Pezeshkian administration.

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Zarif mentioned that he had met with Mohseni Ejei on Saturday, following an invitation from the Judiciary Chief. During the meeting, he was advised to return to academia to avoid becoming a political burden on the government.
Zarif’s Response and Future Plans
Taking the advice immediately, Zarif decided to step down, stating that he does not want to create difficulties for the current administration. He reaffirmed his support for President Pezeshkian and extended best wishes to those serving the nation.
No official government statement has been issued yet regarding the resignation.
