Social media firewall Pakistan reports suggesting that the government has shut down its monitoring system are inaccurate, say telecom companies and regulatory officials. False claims circulating on social media asserted that the government had disabled the firewall system used to regulate online platforms. However, telecom operators have firmly rejected these reports, calling them baseless and unsubstantiated.
Representatives from the telecom sector confirmed they have received no directive from the government to dismantle any such infrastructure, and stressed that the firewall setup on their networks is still in operation. Additionally, officials from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) clarified that the regulator does not directly operate a social media firewall but relies on its long-established Web Management System to manage grey traffic and block unlawful online content.

According to PTA sources, the Web Management System has been functioning for nearly two decades and continues to be an active part of routine regulatory activity — dispelling claims of a system shutdown. Despite public speculation and debate over internet governance, no official cancellation or disabling of the firewall infrastructure has occurred.
