The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office in Lahore, in coordination with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, conducted a successful raid on a Mobilink (Jazz) franchise in Depalpur, District Okara. This action followed numerous complaints from impoverished female residents of the area, who reported that their fingerprints were being misused and SIMs were being unlawfully issued under the pretext of distributing Rashan through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

Jazz Franchise Raided for Alleged SIM Fraud and Exploitation of Women

During the raid, the FIA seized 25 suspicious SIMs and two suspected Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices. The retailer managing the franchise was arrested on the spot, and an FIR has been registered by the agency. The FIA Cybercrime Circle is continuing its investigation into the case.

This raid was initiated after the PTA filed a complaint with the FIA regarding the illegal activation of SIMs through this sales channel. The crackdown is part of the PTA’s ongoing efforts to combat the illegal issuance of SIMs and demonstrates the Authority’s commitment to eliminating this illegal activity.
