The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has significantly expanded its public Wi-Fi initiative, doubling the number of free access points across the province to enhance digital inclusion and connectivity.

In Lahore alone, the number of public Wi-Fi hotspots has surged from 230 to 430. The service, previously limited to 11 districts, is now available in 22, including Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Attock, Hasan Abdal, Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree. The recent activation of Wi-Fi in Gujrat marks the latest step in this province-wide rollout.

According to PSCA data, over 37.22 million users have benefited from the initiative, consuming more than 905 terabytes of data to date. These figures highlight the growing reliance on free, reliable internet access in public spaces.

To accommodate the rising demand and improve service quality, PSCA has upgraded its infrastructure to the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology. This upgrade offers faster internet speeds, reduced latency, and more stable connections—particularly important in crowded areas.

This public Wi-Fi initiative is part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to implement smart city solutions and reduce the digital divide. By providing free internet in urban and semi-urban areas, the PSCA is supporting millions of residents in staying connected, informed, and empowered.
