Pakistan is expected to experience an intense heatwave during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha holidays, with temperatures in several cities likely to soar as high as 50°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The weather advisory warns that the extreme conditions could persist from May 25 to May 31 across multiple regions of the country.
The PMD stated that a strong high-pressure system is developing in the upper atmosphere and is expected to intensify further from May 26 onward. As a result, moderate to severe heatwave conditions are likely to affect Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Sindh is expected to face the harshest temperatures, with cities including Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Shikarpur, and Dadu forecast to record temperatures between 47°C and 50°C. Other districts such as Khairpur, Ghotki, Naushahro Feroze, Hyderabad, Badin, and Tharparkar are also likely to experience dangerously high temperatures during the Eid holidays.

In Punjab, cities including Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Khanewal may witness temperatures approaching 47°C, while Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, and nearby regions are expected to remain between 42°C and 45°C — several degrees above seasonal averages.
Health experts and authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, especially between 10am and 4pm, while staying hydrated throughout the day. Children, elderly individuals, women, and outdoor workers are considered the most vulnerable during the heatwave. Farmers have also been advised to take precautions for livestock and crop protection.
Pakistan has witnessed increasingly severe heatwaves in recent years, with climate experts linking the rising temperatures to climate change and urbanization. Meteorologists warn that extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense across South Asia.
