On Friday, Karachi experienced its most significant robbery of the year when thieves stole over Rs23.2 million from a man who had just withdrawn the large sum from a bank. The robbery occurred near II Chundrigarh Road, and a case has been registered at the Mithadar Police Station.

The victim, Muhammad Bilal, reported that the robbers targeted him as he left the bank and made off with the cash in the parking lot. A security guard who tried to stop the robbers was severely injured and later hospitalized. Karachi Police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident, with officials confirming that the culprits fled on a motorcycle. Efforts are underway to track them down.

A senior police officer mentioned that they are currently reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence to identify and apprehend the suspects. Authorities are also appealing to the public for assistance. “We urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the suspects to come forward and report it to the nearest police station,” the officer added.

It’s worth noting that Karachi has seen a sharp rise in street crimes over the first seven months of this year. According to a recent Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) report, the city recorded over 44,000 criminal incidents, including the theft or snatching of more than 31,000 motorcycles. The report also highlighted that over 1,000 cars were stolen or snatched, and more than 11,000 mobile phones were forcibly taken from citizens.
