A landmark jirga was held at the Chief Minister’s House in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to address the ongoing peace and security challenges in the province. The jirga, convened at the invitation of KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, saw a united front from provincial and federal leaders, as well as political party representatives, all coming together to find a peaceful resolution.

Key Stakeholders Gather for Peace Talks

The event was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi, and KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. Members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, including leaders from various political parties, also participated. Notable attendees included Barrister Gohar from PTI, Aimal Wali Khan, Professor Ibrahim, Mohsin Dawar, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, Sikandar Sherpao, Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, opposition leader Dr. Ibad, and Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam.

Unity for Peace: Putting Politics Aside

In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Gandapur expressed gratitude to all attendees, thanking them for putting aside political differences for the sake of peace in the province. He emphasized that the primary goal of the jirga was to protect the lives and property of all citizens, whether civilians or security personnel. He also made it clear that peace would not be achieved through violence, but through dialogue and negotiations.

Gandapur, drawing from Pashtun traditions, underlined the importance of gathering all parties at the negotiating table to find a peaceful solution to the region’s issues.

Federal and Provincial Support for the Peace Process

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi reiterated that the agenda of the jirga was to ensure peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He praised the provincial government’s initiative and acknowledged the collective effort to set aside differences for the province’s well-being.

Delegating Authority to the Chief Minister

During the jirga, the political leaders conferred full authority on Chief Minister Gandapur to lead the peace negotiations. Gandapur accepted the responsibility with gratitude, committing to formulate a consultation and action plan to address the province’s pressing issues.

According to a provincial government spokesperson, the jirga fully delegated the resolution of peace-related matters to Gandapur, with all leaders expressing confidence in his leadership.

Moving Forward with Dialogue

The success of the jirga depends on the ongoing dialogue and the formulation of actionable plans. The political unity demonstrated at the jirga marks a significant step toward resolving the security challenges facing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
