Currently, the Apple Watch Ultra is one of the most advanced smartwatches in the world at this point in time. It has a host of features that set it apart from its competitors, including a 100m water resistance rating, a 60-hour battery life and a 100m water resistance rating. In addition to the OLED display, the watch also features a chronograph. When it comes to displays, Apple’s screens have always been a topic of discussion among both fans and critics alike due to their design and quality. Despite the fact that the iPhone finally got an OLED display in 2017, many iPad models still come with LED displays. As per the latest reports, the tech giant will delay the adoption of microLED technology for the Apple Watch Ultra.

MacRumors reported that the transition from LCD displays to microLED displays has been postponed until 2025, based on a tweet sent by industry expert Ross Young in the display industry. Earlier reports indicated that the microLED Apple Watch Ultra would be available in the market by the end of 2024. MicroLED displays are considered to be a bit more complex to develop than OLED or LCD displays since they are not as common or mass-produced as OLED and LCD displays and therefore the development process is more difficult.

With the switch to microLED technology, Apple Watch Ultra will have a lot more to offer, including improved power efficiency and durability, both of which are crucial selling points for a premium product like Apple Watch Ultra. Additionally, there has been rumor that the wearable will have a slightly larger microLED panel, which could make it more attractive to athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, the target audience of the wearable.

In spite of this, it seems like the Apple Watch Ultra has been put on hold since Apple seems to be focusing on its upcoming VR/AR headset, the Reality Pro, rather than the Apple Watch Ultra. Apple has a lot of hopes for its new headset, and it may have a whiplash effect on its other devices as a result. There has recently been a collaboration between the company and Disney in the development of virtual content. In the same way that the iPad (which is slated to have new upgrades in 2024) is facing delays as a result of upgrades being pushed back, the Apple Watch lineup is also facing delays. Despite its current specifications, the Apple Watch Ultra remains a formidable device, regardless of its current state of development.
